๐ Introduction
Living with a constant need to be loved and accepted is exhausting. When we are driven by a dependent mind, we spend our days nervously reading other people’s facial expressions, constantly worrying about what they think of us. This underlying fear breeds a heavy, silent anxiety that makes us sigh constantly and harbor unexplainable anger. We carry around deep emotional pain and stray thoughts without even realizing where they come from. But what happens when you finally stop seeking external validation and learn how to discard that anxious, dependent mind?
In this post, two practitioners share the liberating relief of letting go. A 43-year-old shares how discarding hidden, unknown agonies allowed him to finally regain true equanimity and mental stability. Meanwhile, a 34-year-old reflects on a profound shift: after discarding her dependent mind and the exhausting habit of reading others’ moods, her constant sighing and anger vanishedโleaving her so peaceful that she began to wonder if it was actually okay to be so indifferent to others’ opinions.
Read their inspiring stories to see how mind subtraction can cure your anxiety and free you from the heavy burden of people-pleasing.
๐ฌ Story 1: ๐ “Discarding Anxiety and Pain and Regaining Equanimity of Mind”
By Jeon Mun-gi / Age 43 / Level 1
I started the practice carrying a lot of anxiety and pain. With the help of the instructor and assistants in front, I was gradually improving, and by taking out and discarding the many agonies inside me that even I didn’t know about, I began to open my eyes little by little to the universe mind taught in Level 1.
“Even now, by discarding myself who has a fake mind, I seem to have regained the equanimity of my mind.”
Anyway, I must continue this universe mind in Level 2 as well. I thank everyone who helped me.

๐ฌ Story 2: ๐ “How I Changed After Meditation”
By Bae Seo-hyun / Age 34 / Level 1
I felt that it is truly difficult to overcome myself. Overcoming myself is hard, but I still think I have improved little by little. I could sit a bit longer, and I also do the foot dance (health gymnastics).
My sighing has decreased. A lot of my anger has drained away.
“I also acknowledge and discard the minds I found while meditating: worried mind, dependent mind, feeling uneasy about laughing, wanting to be loved, wondering what that person thinks of me?”
Compared to before, I care less about reading other people’s facial expressions or moods. โถ To the point where I wonder if it’s okay for me to be this indifferent.
