📖 Introduction

Do you constantly carry a heavy mind, weighed down by guilt, anxiety about the future, or the exhausting habit of comparing yourself to others? When we feel burdened by our responsibilities—whether it’s caring for our family’s health or meeting expectations at work—it is easy to lose our confidence and retreat into escapism. We often believe that these heavy feelings and stressful comparisons are just an unavoidable part of life. But what if those stressful thoughts are merely illusions, and you could actually discard them to find true, lasting happiness?

In this post, two practitioners share how mind subtraction meditation freed them from their heaviest mental burdens. A 46-year-old shares how she let go of her guilt and intense anxiety about the future, discovering the profound, simple joy of eating, sleeping, and walking with a light mind. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old teacher opens up about his struggles with workplace stress, lack of confidence, and constantly comparing himself to colleagues. By discarding his illusory thoughts, he escaped his anxiety and discovered true confidence.

Read their inspiring stories to discover how emptying your mind can help you stop comparing yourself to others and lead you to the joy of true, eternal happiness.

💬 Story 1: “Discovering the joy of living with a happy mind”

By Lee Mi-kyung / Age 46 / Level 1

I came to know and participate in this meditation by chance. Before, my mind was always heavy, my head was full of thoughts, and my burden and anxiety about the future were strong. In particular, I blamed myself for family health issues, failures, etc., and felt frustrated.

After confirming the universe mind, my body and mind became very light, and I came to know the joy of falling asleep, eating, and taking walks with a happy mind.

“Through mind subtraction in just a week, I gained the certainty that there is a way to live happily, and it seems I have experienced a very small taste of that happiness.”

The strong belief arose that if I continue to meditate on this joy, fascination, happiness, lightness, relief, hope, and certainty, I will be able to reach eternal happiness, not just a temporary one. I feel like I’ve seen the light of the path to true happiness.

💬 Story 2: “A life free from the mind of comparing and anxiety”

By Kim Seong-won / Age 29 / Level 7

Before meditating, as a teacher, I lived with the burden that I always had to take responsibility for the students. And because I was always with the children, there were many times I got stressed when the students didn’t act or speak the way I wanted. Outside the classroom, I spent my days with anxiety, comparing myself to other teachers in my mind, thinking, ‘Why can’t I do it like that?’ and ‘What if someone opposes or criticizes what I do?’

As a result, I always lacked confidence in front of others, avoided it by playing computer games, and tried to stay only within myself. Meanwhile, at my mother’s introduction, I started doing this meditation.

From doing the first Level, I felt that this meditation was a meditation that actually worked, and I felt it was exactly what I needed right now.

“As my thoughts changed to realize that the minds I truly believed existed were merely illusions in the pictures I had taken with my mind and didn’t actually exist, I was able to truly discard and eliminate them.”

And as a result of discarding even the ‘me’ within that, I no longer live a life tied down by being dragged around by non-existent illusory pictures or being bound to my body suffering and struggling. And what is more important than anything is that I came to know the universe mind that has existed from the beginning. It seems nothing but gratitude remains.
