Why do many religions prosper in Korea?
Hankook, which is the Korean word for Korea, also means a big country. Korea is a great country for many religions from around the world to prosper in because conditions in Korea have always been unstable due to frequent invasions by other countries. Therefore, people favored religions because they teach that people can at least go to a good place after death, and they will live there forever; hence many people came to believe those religions. Furthermore, Koreans favored foreign religions because they came from countries stronger and wealthier than Korea. The result, as we see now, is that many religions have prospered in Korea.
Religions are divided into many denominations; and this imperfect state gives rise to an imperfect situation. The result is that instead of Truth the thoughts of individuals became the power that made the religion spread even more.
Since people do not know Truth, they do not know what is right and what is wrong. Because people are ignorant of Truth, pseudo-religions, or cults, which satisfy people’s thoughts, have become common. In fact, these false religions have a louder voice in today’s society. Truth is not in outspoken words. Truth does not reside in appearance. Truth is not about a certain person.
