📖 Introduction

How much energy do you spend pretending that everything is perfectly fine? When we experience painful situations, our first instinct is often to turn a blind eye, bury our anger, and force a bright smile. We hypnotize ourselves into believing that if we ignore the past, it will simply go away. However, stagnant water eventually rots. Those suppressed emotions—anger, resentment, and depression—linger beneath the surface, dominating our daily lives and even manifesting as chronic physical pain. But what if you didn’t have to pretend anymore?

In this post, two practitioners share how mind subtraction meditation helped them confront their hidden burdens and discover authentic healing. A 39-year-old shares the profound joy of emptying her mind, a process that naturally resolved her chronic physical pain, including premenstrual syndrome and backaches. Meanwhile, a 33-year-old opens up about his exhausting battle with hidden depression and how letting go of his traumatic past finally allowed him to taste true freedom.

Read their inspiring stories to discover how discarding the illusions of your past can heal both your mind and body, allowing you to live authentically in the present.

💬 Story 1: “How joyful and thankful it is to have no mind”

By Miryu Shin / Age 39 / Level 1

It was a precious time to look back on myself and reflect. I lived blaming the world, but I realized it was all my fault… I think I can know a little bit about how joyful and thankful it is to have no mind. I was thankful for the very existence of everything in the world.

“Until the day I achieve completion… I want to escape from the fake mind world and live with the true mind. Thank you. ^^”

In addition… some of my physical symptoms have improved. Improvement in premenstrual syndrome, back pain, shoulder pain, and headaches… I am truly thankful for the fact that I no longer have to get the acupuncture treatments I always got at the Oriental medicine clinic.

💬 Story 2: “I didn’t want to pretend to be okay. Now I feel freedom.”

By Gyudae Kim / Age 33 / Level 1

For some reason, I ended up coming to the 1-night 2-day ‘Self-Reflection’ program held at the Nonsan Main Center, and I opened the first door to looking back on my lived life for the first time. I didn’t think I had lived well so far, but my life had more ups and downs for my age compared to others. However, every time I passed through a given situation, I lived turning a blind eye to the ‘me’ who was there at that time.

Because those memories were so terrible, so painful, and the anger surged uncontrollably, I lived hypnotizing myself, saying, ‘I overcame that situation, I’m fine now, and I have no anger or hatred for the sake of my future life.’ Do they say stagnant water rots? Those emotions I believed had disappeared influenced me everywhere as I lived my life afterward. Negatively, of course.

People around me might not have known, but I could vaguely feel it. That the latent emotions erupted wildly in response to certain conditions, and also that depression and lethargy dominated everywhere in my daily life. In front of others, I smiled brightly and pretended nothing was wrong, pretended to be okay, but in reality, I was not okay at all. I was sick of pretending to be okay when I wasn’t.

“Currently, what prevents me, born as ‘me’, from living my life now, in the present, is not the events that happened back then, nor those people, but exactly myself, my mind, the pictures in my mind.”

These were illusions stamped in my mind along with emotions about the events at that time, which no one else could see and only I knew, and I even had emotions added to those illusions. When I realized that these things were gnawing at my life, holding my ankles, making my shoulders droop, and that I was playing a puppet on a string, I finally escaped from it and tasted freedom for a moment.

To make that freedom I briefly saw mine in the future, I will have to make more efforts and devote myself, but I have made up my mind to go all the way to the end. Seeing the evidence that there is an original nature inside that is pure, clean, and without right or wrong, and that it also comes out through others, I intend to go all the way to the end even if the fight with myself is hard and difficult.
