📖 Introduction
Parenting is often described as the greatest joy in life, but it can also bring the heaviest burdens of guilt and resentment. When our children struggle—especially with interpersonal relationships—we often blame ourselves for our past choices. We try everything to “fix” the situation, taking them to counseling and desperately searching for solutions. But when the problems persist, our guilt can twist into frustration and resentment. We begin to feel that our children are scratching our pride, failing to meet our expectations. But what if the root of the struggle isn’t your child’s behavior, but the rigid mental mold you are trying to force them into?
In this post, a 47-year-old mother shares an incredibly honest and moving reflection on her parenting journey. After a painful struggle with infertility, she was blessed with twins, only to face immense guilt after leaving her son with her in-laws so she could work. When he later struggled in school, her guilt turned into resentment. It wasn’t until she tried meditation—at the recommendation of her son’s teacher—that she realized the painful truth: the problem wasn’t her son, but her own unyielding expectations.
Read her beautifully raw story to see how mind subtraction can heal deep parenting guilt, dissolve resentment, and teach you how to truly accept your child exactly as they are.
💬 Story: 🍂 “It Wasn’t My Son’s Problem, But My Problem”
By Autumn Wind / Age 47 / Level 7
Living my life, there was an unknown emptiness and hollowness. Being alone was more comfortable than mingling with people, and I lived a life with more interest in nature, animals, and plants. I had the first love marriage in the family, but we couldn’t have a child, which made my parents constantly worry. Pregnant women felt so enviable to me, and relying on what they call the power of science, we had twins.
Thinking it was a gift from heaven, but burdened with having to work, we left our eldest, our son, with my in-laws who offered to raise him. We brought him back after 15 months and raised them together. As the twins grew and entered elementary school, I seriously began to worry due to interpersonal relationships.
“When my son struggled, everything was my fault, and I even felt guilt for not raising him myself. So I made efforts, taking him to counseling, but it wasn’t easily resolved. The gift from heaven ultimately led me to regret, wondering why I had children to suffer like this and why such a child was born to me.”
The always-lacking son scratched my pride and I resented him. While meditating at the recommendation of my child’s middle school homeroom teacher, I realized that everything was not my son’s problem but my problem, and I began to see my own state.
“I had tried to fit my son into my mind’s mold, never once looked at him just as he was, and didn’t know how to accept him.”
My son became the condition that allowed me to continue meditating. I thought the study dealing with the human mind was the best study, so I had studied counseling a lot outside my major, but it was all in vain. Through meditation, I learned acceptance and a grateful heart. I bow my head before the providence of the great universe that brought me here. I thank everyone who helped me like this, and thanking you again, I pledge only to be able to finish this mind study to the end. Thank you.
