📖 Introduction
Have you ever felt so stuck in your own struggles that you believed real change was impossible? Many of us try everything to fix our heavy minds—reading countless self-help books, cutting off relationships, running away to new environments, or simply giving up. For others, major life shifts like retirement bring unexpected stress, insomnia, and a short temper. When you are consumed by your own anxiety and regrets, it becomes incredibly difficult to care for yourself, let alone the people around you.
In this post, two practitioners share their powerful journeys of profound personal transformation through mind subtraction meditation. A 24-year-old shares how he tried to escape his low self-esteem by joining the Marines, only to find true change and self-reflection at a meditation camp. Meanwhile, a 59-year-old retiree explains how discarding his stressful thoughts cured his insomnia and impatience, giving him the mental relaxation needed to finally care for others.
Read their inspiring stories to discover how emptying the mind can help you overcome feelings of helplessness, restore your self-esteem, and bring true stability to your life.
💬 Story 1: “Convinced it’s a place where people can change”
By Jeon Gye-jin / Age 24 / Level 7
It was this meditation that I started because my mind was struggling. I wondered why it was so hard and why it wasn’t resolving even as time passed. I felt unhappy, and I always had regret and a sense of shame, thinking, “Why am I only capable of this much?” Carrying that mind, it was hard and scary to face my family and friends. I was in so much agony that I read dozens of books on self-improvement and the principles of the mind, but there was no change.
Feeling that people don’t change, I started living giving up on life. I treated my body recklessly, cut off interpersonal relationships, and distanced myself. That was comfortable for me at the time. My self-esteem dropped so much that I enlisted in the Marines as if running away to the military where no one knew me, hoping for a change again. But even after I was discharged, if anything it was worse, but it remained the same.
Then I saw a university student camp for this meditation by chance on Facebook and went, planning to stay for just 1 week.
“I only planned for 1 week, but convinced that this is a place where people can change, I finished all the way to Level 7.”
Having finished all the levels, the current me knows that it’s not the fault of others, the world, or the environment, but it’s all my fault, and it was my fault for living a life knowing only myself with a narrow mind.

💬 Story 2: “The relaxation to care for not only myself but others’ minds”
By woodboy / Age 59 / Level 1
After retiring, due to usual stress and psychological instability, my daily life was irregular; I had insomnia, impatience, was nervous, and easily got angry over small things.
At my wife’s recommendation, I entered the Nonsan Main Center for this meditation. Recalling my lived life and memories, I intensively practiced discarding thoughts, that is, subtraction meditation (Level 1). As even forgotten memories surfaced, I reflected and repented.
“Discarding the untrue thoughts, I found mental stability and relaxation. Looking back on my lived life and thoughts, contemplating everything, I developed a relaxed mind capable of caring for not only my own mind but the minds of others.”
I have come to understand the principles of the meditation method of this meditation, and I expect it will be of great help in my future life. By regularly practicing the subtraction meditation, I feel I will have a life where I find my original self.
