📖 Introduction
Did you know that a heavy, anxious mind can actually manifest as physical pain in your body? Often, unexplained aches, tension, and sleepless nights are deeply connected to the stress, anger, and regrets we hold inside. When we constantly try to control our lives, harbor resentment, or worry about the future, our bodies bear the burden. But what happens when you finally let go of those deeply embedded thoughts?
In this post, two practitioners share their powerful experiences of finding both physical and mental relief through mind subtraction meditation. A 26-year-old shares the remarkable story of how her unexplained chronic shoulder pain vanished once she let go of her selfishness, hatred, and anger. Meanwhile, a 43-year-old discusses how emptying the mind allowed him to escape the exhausting cycle of past regrets and future anxiety, paving the way for a truly satisfying life.
Read their inspiring stories to discover how releasing negative thoughts can heal not just your mind, but your body as well.
💬 Story 1: “Like a lie, my shoulder pain disappeared”
By Lydia / Age 26 / Level 1
The fastest change I felt after starting meditation was the change in my body. For 2-3 years, I frequently visited the hospital for shoulder pain of unknown origin. I tried X-rays, ultrasounds, and even MRIs, but couldn’t find an exact cause, and I just barely got by day by day taking strong medications like steroids.
“However, a day or two after starting meditation here, my shoulder pain disappeared like a lie. When waking up in the morning, I always woke up frowning due to the pain, but during the week I was here, I was able to wake up with a comfortable face.”
Looking back on the life I’ve lived, I realized how selfishly I had lived. I was only satisfied when everything revolved the way I wanted. I stubbornly insisted on having things my way, and when things didn’t go as planned, I blamed others and cultivated baseless hatred, anger, and inferiority. Once I acknowledged and threw that away, I was able to sleep deeply at night.
However, I kept placing expectations on my life that would change after meditation, and the feeling that I would live really well sometimes interfered with my practice. I realized that my attachment to life was truly huge, and why I had lived trapped in such a vain world when I wanted to live so well. For the remaining time, I will try to discard even my expectations for the future.

💬 Story 2: “I am trying to step closer to a more satisfying life”
By Oh Heon-gyu / Age 43 / Level 1
Living my life up to now, whenever I felt a hard, painful, or anxious mind, I had many questions and frustrations: Why is this happening? Why doesn’t this mind easily go away? Why don’t my thoughts or actions go the way I made up my mind?
“While practicing subtraction meditation, I learned that every moment and thought of the life I’ve lived so far is deeply embedded in my brain and mind, and unless these disappear, I cannot escape from my current state.”
My depth of practice isn’t deep enough yet to understand everything, but by continuing subtraction meditation, I feel I can focus on my present life and largely escape from regrets and anxiety about the past or future. From now on, I will steadily practice subtraction meditation to step closer to a more satisfying life.
