📖 Introduction

Superiority and inferiority complexes often look like complete opposites, but they are actually two sides of the exact same self-centered coin. When we operate from a place of superiority, we exhaust ourselves trying to maintain a facade of success, inadvertently hurting the people around us. When we operate from an inferiority complex, we drown in anxiety, constantly blaming the world for our inadequacy and emptiness. In both cases, we are entirely trapped inside a fake, isolated world of our own making. What happens when you finally see this self-centered mind for what it truly is?

In this post, two individuals share their powerful moments of true self-reflection. One practitioner realized that despite outward achievements, her life was desolate because of a lifelong “failed superiority” that alienated everyone around her. The other, drowning in anxiety and an inferiority complex, discovered that her tendency to blame the world was actually masking a terrifyingly selfish mindset.

Read their eye-opening stories to see how discarding a self-centered mind can cure both superiority and inferiority, leaving you with genuine hope and courage.

💬 Story 1: 🪞 “Entering My True Self-Reflection”

By Iju Jeon / Level 1

Recalling the memories inputted since birth, the pictures of the mind stacked up tightly one by one, I looked back on myself and organized things, and I got to think this way and that about the things I hated and resented. I am grateful to be here at this moment when I was given the opportunity to think deeply.

I thought I had achieved many things, but my mind was becoming devastated and desolate, and my body was exhausted and collapsing. I wondered what the cause was, and when the helper said, “A life lived only for oneself becomes exhausted and tired, and there is no happy mind,” I felt, “Ah! This is it,” and entered my true self-reflection.

“I realized that the superior self-esteem formed since elementary school is the ‘me’ today! I had been wielding this failed superiority and making things hard for the people around me.”

Thank you. Thank you for not expecting anything big and working hard to help many people live with the universe mind.

💬 Story 2: 🌅 “I Gained the Hope to Rise Again”

By Jiyoung Choi / Age 25 / Level 1

When I first decided to come to this meditation, I was drowning in an inferiority complex and felt anxious about everything. I understood in my head that I shouldn’t be like this, but with the constantly repeating emptiness, my mind became increasingly weak, and I couldn’t find the strength to rise again at all.

For the first few days after coming here, I sat down trying to discard my mind, but the cause of giving me this mind was still directed at the world rather than myself. Why am I so inadequate, or if only that hadn’t happened, I would be living well…

“Then, at some point during the meditation, all the emotions connected as one, and I saw a terrifyingly selfish version of myself. The countless words and actions I had done to hide my inferiority and superiority complexes or while intoxicated by them, and the time I spent crying and laughing, was ultimately a world I had created.”

So, mustering a little strength, I tried discarding all my minds just as the helpers instructed. Then, my mind became comfortable, and I vaguely felt the universe mind.

New minds I didn’t know about are still coming up, and there are a ton of minds to discard, but I have gained the hope to try rising again. I have gained the courage to slowly step toward the true mind, no longer struggling in the fake world I created. I thank everyone I met here.
