📖 Introduction
It is a terrifying feeling when your own mind starts to turn against you. Even for those known for their bright and active personalities, severe anxiety and depression can strike suddenly, bringing sleepless nights and a heavy sense of suffocation. When you feel like you are losing yourself to your own troubled thoughts, where do you turn for a way out?
In this post, a young woman shares her vulnerable journey of trying to escape the overwhelming grip of depression. Through the practice of mind subtraction, she confronted her anxiety, navigated the difficult process of letting go, and finally realized a profound truth that set her free.
Read her honest story to see how uncovering the fake nature of our agonizing thoughts can lead to a truly unburdened mind.
💬 Story: 🌧️ The Struggle to Escape a Troubled Mind
By Choi Song-ah / Age 31 / Level 1
I first learned about this meditation last summer from a close older colleague at work. At that time, I was simply curious and interested, thinking it would be good to try it once if I got the chance. Then, from the end of last year through January and February of this year, my mind was so troubled and distressed that I couldn’t sleep well.
Overwhelmed by depression and anxiety, I felt that at this rate I would ruin my personality, mind, and body (as I was widely acknowledged by myself and others as having a bright and active personality), so I wanted to escape from this suffocation and depression. During that time, this meditation came to mind, and I immediately entered Level 1 training of this meditation.
At first, I only thought of it as a refuge from reality, and I came in with a rather large expectation that I would feel truly refreshed and better, but adapting at first was very difficult. Listening to the lecture was interesting and easy to understand, and ah! I made the resolution to work really hard and become the universe mind, but extracting the mind was not easy at all, and during the process of looking back at my mind, there were times when complexity and anxiety surged again.
Whenever that happened, the assistant helpers would occasionally show interest, consult with me, and provide personal meditation sessions, which I was so grateful for. My mind would jump around several times a day, feeling like it was going well and then not going well. In my heart and mind, I wanted to take a leave of absence, settle down here, and just keep doing this meditation, but thinking about tomorrow and returning to daily life leaves me somewhat anxious and regretful.
“Still, the suffocation, depression, and anguish have subsided a lot compared to when I first entered here, and since I learned that they are all fake, I think I shouldn’t let them sway me and damage my body and mind anymore.”
It’s not like my mind instantly became completely refreshed or that I forgot everything, or that all frustrating things were completely forgotten like I initially expected when I came, but I want to continue it at the local this meditation center. Still, I feel quite a lot more unburdened.
