π INTRODUCTION TO THE ACADEMIC SOCIETY FOR HUMAN COMPLETION | SANTA CLARA MEDITATION
At the end of an era defined by growth and abundance, humanity faces numerous personal, social, national, and global problems that threaten our very survival. To solve these problems that can no longer be ignored, multifaceted joint efforts in all fields are necessary. However, the most important and fundamental requirement is that the consciousness of each individual must awaken, and their thoughts and actions must change. This is the exact role that education must play.
The Academic Society for Human Completion was established to answer this urgent call. By fostering a shift from selfishness to altruism, the society contributes to creating a future of happy coexistence. Here is an introduction to the societyβs philosophy, mission, and its comprehensive history of transforming the educational landscape.
π Philosophy and Mission
The core mission of the society is clear: We contribute to creating a world of happy coexistence for everyone through Human Completion education.
When humans know their roots and live with the fundamental mind, when everyone becomes one and lives knowing gratitude for their country and the world, and when everyone lives finding their true natureβwhich is the restoration of original natureβtheir minds are one, and living for others becomes the essence of Human Completion education.
As former Harvard University President Drew Gilpin Faust stated, “Education is less about making people carpenters than making carpenters people.” The original role of education is to raise true human beings. When each individual changes from a self-centered mind to a greater mind that thinks of others and the whole first, the problems facing humanity will be solved fundamentally.
ποΈ Purpose and Form of Establishment
The Academic Society for Human Completion was established to fulfill this original role of education. We aim to contribute to opening a new horizon of education that nurtures talents equipped with dedication, consideration, tolerance, communication skills, wisdom, creativity, and a Human Completion consciousness, moving entirely away from a paradigm of competition and success.
It is an academic research and practice organization established by professors, teachers, scholars, and experts. With about 200 scholars, professors, elementary, middle, and high school teachers, and experts from various fields such as humanities, science, healthcare, culture, and arts in attendance, the inaugural general meeting was held at KAIST on November 8, 2008. The society subsequently obtained approval as a public interest corporation from the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education on June 12, 2010.
πΌ Major Projects
To realize its vision, the society actively engages in extensive research and practical program development:
1. Character Education and Human Completion Education Research Activities
- Hosting Academic Conferences: Holding academic conferences 1β2 times a year to provide a venue for social discussion on character education and Human Completion education and to spread consensus.
- Publishing Academic Journals: Publishing an academic journal once a year by gathering the society’s research data and practice cases. Producing other online and offline newsletters according to the purpose of the society.
2. Character Education Program Development and Operation
- Youth: Development and operation of character education programs for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high schools.
- College Students: Development and operation of character education programs and humanities liberal arts class curricula for college students.
- Teachers: Development and operation of healing and capacity-building programs for teachers.
- College Professors: Development and operation of healing and capacity-building programs for college professors.
- Local Community: Development and operation of programs to promote the happiness and mental health of local residents.
3. Fostering Character Education Experts
- Operating programs to foster character education experts.
