📖 Introduction

Whether it is the pressure of living as a foreigner in a new culture or simply trying to survive in a highly competitive society, many of us develop a habit of heavily “packaging” ourselves. We build protective walls, constantly worry about how others perceive us, and suppress our true identities to fit in. Over time, this exhausting performance takes a massive toll, manifesting as severe anxiety, physical pain, and deep depression. But what happens when you finally stop acting and drop the facade?

In this post, two individuals share their incredible journeys of shedding their false selves. One is a young adult who healed their physical pain, culture shock, and severe anxiety by dropping their packaged persona. The other is a 49-year-old who completely cured their depression by reflecting on a lifetime of self-centered habits.

Read their inspiring stories to see how emptying the mind can free you from the exhausting need to pretend.

💬 Story 1: 🎭 “A Life Where I Thoroughly Packaged Myself”

By woney / Age 23 / Level 1 / USA

While meditating, my stiff right body loosened up a lot, the throbbing pain in my right brain subsided a lot, my anger resolved a lot, my anxiety disorder decreased a lot, and my mind calmed down a lot.

Also, I developed a habit of frequently forgetting things, but that disappeared a lot too. Finally, the inferiority complex I had and questioned regarding my identity, and my anxiety about the future have also largely disappeared.

“My depression disappeared a lot, and the mind of having been hurt and used by people around me all this time vanished a lot. And I stopped caring much about people’s gazes or prejudices.”

Also, the culture shock I experienced living abroad for a long time, and the feeling of disappointment and sorrow as a foreigner disappeared a lot. I also regained my identity as a Korean a lot. The thorough packaging of myself due to unavoidable situations all this time also vanished a lot. I also quit smoking and drinking alcohol.

💬 Story 2: ☀️ “My Depression Has Improved”

By Namdae Lee / Age 49 / Level 2

There are many changes and things I felt. Emptying my mind, the emotions I used to have disappeared, and my mind became so comfortable.

“And I felt that I truly lived wrongly because the life I lived until now was selfish and self-centered. My consciousness seems to have changed a lot, and I also felt that the human mind is a fake and an illusion.”

The big change is that my depression has now completely healed, and the eyes with which I view the world have all changed positively.
