📖 Introduction
It is a well-known medical fact that chronic stress and extreme anger can severely damage your physical health. When we live with a constant sense of irritation, blaming everyone else for our failures and harboring deep resentment, our bodies bear the ultimate burden. But if you were pushed to the absolute brink of death and given a second chance at life through a major organ transplant, would you go back to living with that same toxic mindset?
In this post, a 51-year-old man shares an incredibly raw and powerful story of survival. After extreme stress and anger led to liver cirrhosis and a life-saving liver transplant, he realized that healing his body wasn’t enough—he had to completely rebuild his mind.
Read his profound journey to see how letting go of a lifetime of resentment and pride gave him what he beautifully calls his “third life.”
💬 Story: 🔥 “I Truly Looked Back on Myself and Discarded My Mind”
By Cha Myung-chul / Age 51 / Level 7
I was a person with a lot of anger who easily got irritated. Because of that, my interpersonal relationships in social life were not smooth, and I often easily got irritated at my family too. In society and in work life, I developed a personality that was always anxious and had to handle everything perfectly, and doing so, it gradually became difficult to adapt to work life and social life, resulting in constant failures.
Meanwhile, due to stress, my health deteriorated to liver cirrhosis, reaching the point of death, and because of this, I even underwent a major surgery called a liver transplant. This became a great gift of another life for me. At that time, I thought I shouldn’t live like this from now on.
“Having been reborn at the threshold of death, I thought I couldn’t just live in the same pain and stress again, and resolved to try changing my own personality first.”
Thinking I should live emptying my mind first, I started this meditation at a friend’s recommendation.
While doing Level 1, I learned that the anger, the irritation, the inability to adapt to interpersonal relationships, family relationships, and social life—all faults didn’t lie with other people but with myself. Hating my parents and siblings, growing up in difficult family circumstances and holding complaints, dissatisfaction, and always an inferiority complex, the pride of not wanting to lose to anyone, not adapting well to social life and always living in anxiety before quitting my job, the years spent harboring greed, failing while always looking up without acknowledging my reality—all these things I had only blamed on others, and I realized I had truly failed to look back on myself like this.
So from Level 2, I found where the root of my anger and irritation lay, why I got angry and irritated at others, and what the problem was one by one. After discarding my mind toward the connections related to me, especially my parents, siblings, and the people I hated the most, one by one, I realized that my mind truly disappeared. From then on, I gained the conviction that, ah, this meditation is truly a meditation that changes my personality and mind.
Doing Levels 4, 5, and 6, feeling that the mind I had was truly fake, and discarding them one by one, my mind was disappearing before I knew it. Up to Level 4, I just felt my mind was getting comfortable, but especially passing Level 5 and from Level 6, I could know that I truly have no mind.
“Encountering this meditation is receiving a third life in my life. I sincerely thank this meditation, which gave me my third life, prioritizing it over anything else, and I consider it more precious.”
