Workplace stress is one of the biggest challenges faced by modern professionals.
For leaders and managers, the pressure can be even greater. They are expected to manage performance, support team members, solve problems, communicate clearly, and continue producing resultsโall while managing their own inner stress.
A training program held for Coway chief team leaders offered a practical approach to this challenge.
On December 11, 2014, a โSelf-Reflection: Mind Subtractionโ training course was conducted for middle managers of Coway Co., Ltd. at the KT Training Center in Daejeon, Korea.
The program focused on stress management, professional capacity building, and self-directed change through the practice of mind subtraction.
๐ฑ TRAINING FOR LEADERS WHO CREATE RESULTS
The training was designed for 50 Coway chief team leaders from across Korea.
These participants were selected because they had achieved outstanding results during the first half of 2014.
As high-performing leaders, they were already capable and dedicated professionals. However, even strong leaders can carry stress, pressure, and emotional burden.
The purpose of the training was to help them better understand the mind, manage stress, and develop the inner strength needed for continued growth.
Rather than focusing only on external performance, the program guided participants to look inward.
๐ UNDERSTANDING THE MIND
The training began with a session called โKnowing the Mind.โ
This session helped participants understand where stress and difficult emotions come from.
In the workplace, stress may seem to come from deadlines, coworkers, customers, performance goals, or unexpected problems.
However, the training encouraged participants to look deeper.
It introduced the idea that stress is not only caused by outside circumstances, but also by the mind one carries inside.
When people hold onto pressure, expectations, worries, judgments, and past experiences, those inner patterns can shape how they react to work, people, and daily challenges.
By understanding the mind, participants could begin to recognize the root of their stress more clearly.
๐ LETTING GO THROUGH MIND SUBTRACTION
After learning about the mind, participants were introduced to the practice of mind subtraction.
Mind subtraction is a method of self-reflection that helps people look back on the thoughts, emotions, and experiences stored in their minds and let them go.
For leaders, this kind of inner reflection can be especially meaningful.
When the mind becomes lighter, communication can become more open.
When stress is reduced, decision-making can become clearer.
When fixed ideas and emotional reactions are released, leaders can respond to people and situations with greater calmness and flexibility.
The training gave participants a specific method to actually discard the minds that create stress and discomfort.
Even though the session was only four hours long, many participants shared that they felt a real sense of relief.
๐ง MOVEMENT HEALING FOR BODY AND MIND
The program also included a โMovement Healingโ session.
This session was led by Professor Yoo Jin-woo of the Kookmin University Conservatory, a master of movement acting.
Through cheerful and comfortable physical relaxation, participants experienced healing not only in the mind but also in the body.
This part of the program helped participants release physical tension and reconnect with themselves in a more relaxed and natural way.
In a busy work environment, the body often carries the stress that the mind has accumulated.
By combining self-reflection with movement healing, the training offered a more complete experience of relaxation, awareness, and renewal.
๐ SELF-DIRECTED CHANGE STARTS FROM WITHIN
One of the main goals of the training was to foster self-directed change.
In leadership, true change cannot be forced from the outside.
People change more naturally when they understand themselves, recognize their own patterns, and willingly let go of the minds that hold them back.
Through mind subtraction, participants were able to experience that change begins from within.
Instead of simply learning another management technique, they had time to reflect on themselves and discover a deeper way to manage stress and lead with clarity.
This kind of inner change can positively influence not only the individual leader, but also the teams and workplace culture around them.
๐ฟ A PRACTICAL METHOD FOR WORKPLACE STRESS MANAGEMENT
The Coway training shows how self-reflection and mind subtraction can be applied beyond personal life.
They can also be meaningful tools in professional environments.
For companies, employee well-being and leadership development are closely connected.
When leaders are overwhelmed, communication can suffer.
When leaders are stressed, team relationships can become tense.
But when leaders become calmer, more self-aware, and more open-minded, the workplace atmosphere can also improve.
Mind subtraction offers a practical way for professionals to reduce stress, regain inner balance, and develop the capacity for positive self-directed change.
๐ฌ PARTICIPANTSโ REFLECTIONS
After the training, Coway chief team leaders shared positive reflections.
One participant said it was a wonderful time because they were able to let go of themselves.
Others shared that although the training was short, they learned what it means to empty the mind and felt their minds become more at ease.
These reflections show that even a short period of sincere self-reflection can create a meaningful inner shift.
For busy professionals, this kind of experience can become the beginning of a healthier relationship with work, people, and oneself.
๐ผ LEADERSHIP BEGINS WITH THE MIND
True leadership is not only about achieving results.
It is also about managing oneself with wisdom, calmness, and awareness.
The โSelf-Reflection: Mind Subtractionโ training for Coway chief team leaders reminds us that stress management begins by understanding the mind.
When leaders learn to reflect, let go, and become lighter within, they can lead with greater clarity and warmth.
A peaceful mind can create better communication.
A lighter mind can create better leadership.
And inner change can become the foundation for positive change in the workplace.
