Since childhood, my parents fought almost every day. Evenings were always filled with anxiety.
My older sister did well in school and grew up with my mother’s support and expectations, while I struggled academically and was often scolded. The atmosphere at home was always tense.
By my senior year of high school, I began experiencing sleep paralysis almost every night. The pressure from family and academics weighed heavily on me. Before going to bed, I would blame my parents and resent the world, constantly questioning why I was born and why I had to live. Life felt overwhelming and exhausting.
Insomnia and Sleep Disorder from Emotional Stress
As time passed, I became an adult and found a job. But gradually, I lost motivation, and conflicts at work increased.
With frequent transfers and long working hours, sleepless nights became more common. My health worsened, and after medical tests, I was diagnosed with sleep disorder and insomnia caused by emotional stress.
Because I couldn’t sleep deeply, my body began to break down. Hospital visits became part of my daily life.
My chest always felt tight, I would wake up constantly feeling thirsty, and my whole body felt heavy—as if I was dragging myself through each day. My immune system weakened, and I developed dry eyes and vertigo.
I tried medication, but nothing improved. No matter how many sleeping pills I took, I couldn’t fall asleep.
One day, while waiting at the hospital, I thought,
“At this rate, I might die.”
All I wanted was to rest.
I took a leave of absence from work and decided to begin this meditation, which my aunt had recommended.
Finding Sleep Again by Letting Go of the Mind
I started at a local meditation center, and after two weeks, I went to the main center for intensive practice.
I began letting go of all the accumulated thoughts—resentment toward my parents, stress toward my supervisors, and the deep inferiority I had felt from being compared to my sister.
As I emptied these thoughts, both my body and mind became lighter. Gradually, I felt a deep sense of peace.
In less than a month at the main center, I began sleeping well—and my insomnia completely disappeared.
Fewer Thoughts, More Action
After returning to work, whenever difficult emotions arose, I was able to overcome them through this meditation.
I realized that the mind is the root of many illnesses. Once I began sleeping deeply and peacefully, my fatigue naturally disappeared, and day by day, my body regained its health and balance.
Later, I participated in a farming meditation program, where I worked outdoors, breathing fresh air and clearing my mind.
Through this, I realized how I had treated my body too delicately and lived too passively. Using illness as an excuse to avoid movement had actually worsened my health.
As I moved my body more, my unnecessary thoughts decreased, and my life became simpler.
Instead of overthinking, I began to take action.
A Completely Changed Life
These days, I sometimes think,
“Did I ever really have insomnia?”
I now have more energy at work, and my conflicts with others have significantly decreased. People often tell me that I seem much softer and more positive than before.
By letting go of resentment toward the world, I no longer have expectations or complaints—only gratitude remains.
I no longer need to rely on hospitals.
Now, I want to live a life where I can contribute to the world.
