Here’s hoping this article helps someone who is struggling with sleep. I’d like to share my two secrets for getting a good night’s rest.
1. I live diligently and stay present throughout the day.
Breakfast with my two boys, ages 14 and 13 — then off they go to school!
• Housework and daily chores
• Check Zoom for meetings and prepare beforehand
• Lunch
• Take an afternoon walk — don’t forget to look at the sky, breathe deeply, and enjoy the weather
• Work and meetings
• Prepare dinner for my husband and children
• Eat dinner together as a family, share stories, and wash dishes
• Finish any remaining tasks for the day
• Meditate for one hour
• Bedtime
2. I meditate to let go of stress, worries, and anxiety.
What would happen if my husband, the sole provider in our family, suddenly passed away?
Would I be able to care for my second son, who has ADHD and an intellectual disability, as I grow older?
What if something unexpected happened to me?
What is my value in a world that is constantly changing?
What if climate change causes my home to flood?
Why was I born into this world, and what is the purpose of living?
These were just some of the countless thoughts that kept me awake at night.
I began meditating in September 2017, and through meditation, I gradually found answers to these questions. As negative thoughts such as worry, anxiety, fear, and inferiority slowly faded from my mind, my true self began to emerge. It had been within me all along.
