Teachers give their all to their students, but who takes care of the teachers when they are mentally and physically exhausted? As job stress and the infringement of educational activities rise, creating a healthy, supportive teaching atmosphere has never been more critical.
A report published by the Namdo Ilbo highlights an inspiring initiative by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education: a dedicated ‘Healing Camp’ designed specifically to help teachers recover their mental health and self-esteem through mind subtraction healing meditation.
πΏ Healing the Root Cause of Stress
The teacher healing camp is an annual training program aimed at inspiring motivation and preventing teacher burnout through profound psychological and mental healing. Organized by the newly established ‘Human Rights Protection Team’, the camp was held at the Boseong-gun Youth Training Center, accommodating 90 educators, ranging from vice principals to kindergarten teachers.
The core theme of the camp was ‘Looking Back on Oneself – Mind Subtraction Healing Meditation.’ Rather than just offering temporary relaxation, the program invited healing experts to help participants find and heal the root causes of their stress.
By learning the method of ‘looking back on oneself,’ the teachers were guided to systematically discard their own subjective memories, heavy thoughts, and the specific stressors related to their classrooms.
π¬ Comprehensive Support for Educators
The healing camp provided a comprehensive approach to mental health toward Human Completion, featuring a variety of impactful programs:
- Stress diagnosis through group counseling
- Deep healing meditation sessions
- Recharging through focused relaxation
- Analysis of the causes of stress and open case sharing
The support doesn’t end when the camp concludes. The Office of Education plans to continuously manage the participants through follow-up counseling.
Furthermore, to create a culture of respect, the Provincial Office established a ‘Teacher Healing Support Center’ to provide prompt support during times of crisis. They even subscribed to a ‘School Staff Liability Insurance’ covering all school staff in the province, ensuring teachers can safely focus on their educational activities without fear.
β¨ Happy Teachers Create Happy Students
As Kim Sung-ae, Head of the Student Life Safety Division, powerfully stated:
“The first condition for an education where students are happy is the recovery of teachers’ mental health and self-esteem.”
When teachers are supported, respected, and given the tools to clear their minds of stress, the entire educational community thrives.
