📖 Introduction
Many of us spend our days trying to figure out who we really are. We constantly analyze our talents, our likes and dislikes, and anxiously try to predict how our future will unfold. Yet, the harder we try to grasp these answers through endless thinking, the more lost, frustrated, and exhausted we become.
In this post, two young adults share their honest experiences of struggling with future anxiety and intrusive thoughts. Through the simple method of discarding the mind, they discovered a surprising truth: you don’t find your true self by overthinking, but by letting go.
Read their stories to see how clearing the heavy mind can naturally reveal who you are and wash away the anxieties of tomorrow.
💬 Story 1: “My True Appearance, Rather Found Out By Doing Subtraction”
By Lee Seo-yoon / Age 21 / Level 1
In the life I said I lived, I wanted to live well and therefore live happily. Doing so, I often practiced self-reflection. Also, I was curious about what kind of person I really was, what my talents were, what I liked and disliked, what kind of person I would match well with, etc., and I think I constantly thought about it. But I couldn’t get any answers. I would be like this when I thought I was like that, and I would find myself unknowingly doing another behavior when I thought I was like this.
However, unlike when I pondered and constantly researched about myself like that, coming to this meditation and doing subtraction, I came to know even unimaginable aspects of myself that I didn’t know. It’s just amazing that I came to know my appearance, which I didn’t know even when I agonized that much, rather by doing subtraction.
“Rather than thinking about myself, more came to me when I discarded.”
Also, holding onto myself, I tried to worry a lot about the future and predict how things would turn out. I tried to know too much about how the future me would be and what situations would be given, and based on the current me, I somewhat guessed that future however I wanted and then frustrated myself. I built up and destroyed everything. Uselessly.
But now, knowing that all those attempts to think and predict to prepare for the future are useless, and doing subtraction, I truly felt the power of subtraction in that, unlike when agonizing over the future meant having to face it and inevitably being frustrated, through subtraction that future can be changed. I am just thankful for the method.

💬 Story 2: “I Think It Was a Good Thing I Came”
By Jung Da-mi / Age 26 / Level 1
At first, I was half in doubt. Since it’s only a week, I came thinking let’s just consider it being tricked, but for about 3 days I thought a lot about just leaving. However, every hour as I meditated, I felt that many pictures in my mind were being discarded without my realizing it, and my stray thoughts disappeared little by little.
And amazingly, the pictures I had thought about dozens of times every day no longer came to mind. Although there are still things that haven’t been discarded to finish Level 1, without feeling impatient, I will continue to practice and slowly discard the pictures.
“It was only a 6-day period, but thinking that the things that exhausted and made me struggle were fake and pictures of the mind, amazingly, whenever I practiced, even bringing out the exact same pictures wasn’t agonizing and became comfortable.”
Now I am grateful to the pictures that led me to know this meditation, and I will continue doing the subtraction like that without stopping. Until I become the universe mind. I think once again that it was a good thing I came.
