πŸ“– Introduction

What does it really mean to be happy? For some, happiness means having a peaceful marriage, understanding a loved one, and sharing genuine smiles after years of stress. For others, it means achieving academic success, building a successful career, and earning enough money to live comfortably. Yet even when we pursue these goals with determination, we may discover that something essential is missing from our lives.

Daily responsibilities, unspoken frustrations, and constant expectations can gradually distance us from the people we love. Meanwhile, the pressure to succeed can leave young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and uncertainty about their future. We often believe that changing our circumstances will finally make us happy, but what if meaningful change begins with looking honestly at our own minds?

In this post, two practitioners share their experiences of discovering happiness through mind subtraction meditation. A 37-year-old husband describes how attending meditation with his wife helped them understand each other more deeply, release long-held frustrations, and rediscover the joy of being together. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old shares how letting go of a materialistic definition of success helped reduce anxiety and depression while inspiring a new desire to contribute to the world.

Read their inspiring stories to discover how self-reflection and mind subtraction can help strengthen relationships, ease emotional burdens, and reveal a more meaningful direction in life.

πŸ’¬ Story 1: πŸ’‘ “A Week at the Main Center with My Wife”

By Mr. Kim / Age 37 / Level 1

I practiced Level 1 in the past, and after a long time has passed, I came here again with my wife. The main reason was for my wife, whose body weakened and whose mind was struggling, but due to continuous life changes, my body and mind were also exhausted, and I was under a lot of stress.

When the Level 1 practice was about half over, my wife and I began to understand each other better, and the smiles that had significantly decreased became more frequent.

“It wasn’t that we had major problems in our relationship before, but the things we endured while holding backβ€”now we both understand ourselves better regarding why we act and think that way, and we understand the other person better too.”

So, things we simply endured in the past have now become situations we can understand and actually enjoy.

Entering the final part of Level 1, beyond understanding each other, we came to understand this universe, and within it, I realized how foolishly and difficultly I had lived.

Especially because I attained realization together with my wife, and our relationship seems to have improved while encouraging each other, I think it was a really good decision to come.

I want to continue the various subsequent levels at the Main Center or local center to continuously gain new enlightenment.

πŸ’¬ Story 2: 🌟 “Finding the Answer to ‘How Will I Live From Now On?'”

By zion / Age 18 / Level 1

Before I practiced, I thought happiness was having a good college, a good job, and lots of money. But those things actually suppressed my freedom and seemed to have made me a more selfish person.

While practicing, I realized I had lived only for myself, and a desire to contribute to the world arose in me.

“My depression and anxiety also definitely decreased significantly compared to before, and daydreaming and delusions lessened, making my life happy.”

But above all, the fact that the ultimate question of ‘How will I live from now on?’ was solved feels like a miracle.

🌱 NEXT STEPS: Rediscover Happiness Through Understanding and Self-Reflection

Are you feeling disconnected from your partner despite caring deeply about each other? Or perhaps you are pursuing success, financial security, and recognition but still feel anxious or uncertain about what will truly make you happy.

Sometimes, the greatest obstacles to happiness are not our circumstances but the accumulated thoughts, expectations, and emotional reactions through which we experience them.

Mind subtraction meditation offers a systematic method of reflecting on the mental pictures formed throughout life and practicing the process of letting them go. By looking back on our experiences and recognizing the thoughts that influence our behavior, we can begin to understand ourselves and the people around us from a different perspective.

As these two practitioners describe, self-reflection can bring meaningful changes in different areas of life. For one, it meant rediscovering smiles and mutual understanding within a marriage. For the other, it meant questioning conventional definitions of success and discovering a greater desire to live for others.

Whether you wish to strengthen your relationships, find greater emotional peace, or discover a clearer purpose in life, your journey can begin by looking within.

True happiness may be closer than you thinkβ€”not necessarily in what you achieve or possess, but in how you understand yourself and experience the world.
