However, the repeated exposure to dangerous and traumatic situations often takes a heavy toll on their mental well-being, leading to high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Finding effective ways to support the mental health of our first responders is more critical than ever.
In this post, we are sharing inspiring news about a recent academic presentation highlighting the powerful, scientifically-backed benefits of Mind Subtraction meditation for firefighters. Professor Yoo Yang-kyung (Department of Nursing at Kunsan National University, Director of the Editorial Committee) participated in a poster presentation at the 12th International Nursing Conference of the Korean Society of Nursing Science on October 25, 2019. ποΈ
The title of the presented paper is “The effect of self-reflection based meditation programs on posttraumatic stress,” which is an in-depth study on the impact of a self-reflection-based meditation program on the post-traumatic stress of firefighters. π
The paper reports the results of a 2019 study involving 80 firefighters at Fire Headquarters A. It highlights that Mind Subtraction meditation significantly reduced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in both male and female firefighters. π
Through these findings, the study proposes that self-reflection-based meditation programs can serve as a highly effective and necessary alternative for managing the mental health of firefighters. π§ πͺ
