Instructors from the Academic Society for Human Completion were invited to the ‘2019 Job Training for Enhancing Character Education Capacity of Elementary and Middle School Teachers,’ hosted by the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education. Held at the Gyeongju Teacher Dream Center from August 24 to 25, 2019, the instructors delivered lectures on the theory and practice of school meditation education. 📝
Professor Shin Na-min (Department of Education at Dongguk University, Education Director of the Academic Society for Human Completion), who lectured on the theoretical basis and academic background of character education through meditation under the title ‘Character Education and Meditation,’ explained:
“Meditation is an effective alternative for cultivating communication and empathy skills, creativity, problem-solving skills, and self-understanding abilities required in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.” 💡
Following this, Professor Lim Young-jin (Full-time Professor at the Human Completion Center, Advisory Committee Member of the Academic Society for Human Completion) led a lecture and practice session on the principles of Mind Subtraction meditation, which is recently being actively applied in school meditation education for students, teachers, and parents. 🧘♂️

During the afternoon session following lunch, lectures on the practical application of elementary and middle school meditation education continued.
- Elementary meditation education was led by Teacher Lee O-nam (Guhang Elementary School, Program Development Team Leader of the Character Education Support Group of the Academic Society for Human Completion). 🎒
- Middle school meditation education was led by Teacher Ha Mi-jin (Bansong Middle School, Director of the Youth Subcommittee of the Academic Society for Human Completion). 🏫
Reflecting the teachers’ aspirations for specific practical methods of character education, the participants’ interest and enthusiasm for meditation education were fervent. In particular, real-life cases where students actually changed through meditation drew the teachers’ attention. 👀
🔍 A New Paradigm for Character Education
A pointed issue with our character education so far has been that it was mostly conducted at the level of short-term behavioral correction tailored to specific virtues or simply dealing with problem students. This is likely due to the absence of an effective character education methodology that can be applied to overall education. 📉
Character education is not a short-term behavioral correction but a matter related to one’s overall life, and it should be for all students, not just a select few. Most importantly, it must be a practical education where actual behaviors and lives change, rather than just acquiring knowledge. 🌱

Professor Shin Na-min emphasized:
“There has been much discussion about the content of character education, but the methodology has been weak. The problem is the methodology. Mind Subtraction meditation will be a desirable alternative for practical character education that leads to actual changes in thoughts and actions through a change in mind.” 🧠✨
In the era of advanced scientific civilization, the mind and character are being increasingly emphasized. As a practical methodology for character education that prepares our children for the future in an era of change, Mind Subtraction meditation is drawing attention from teachers and is expected to spread even further. 🚀
