💬 Meditation Testimonial: “Saying goodbye to depression and insomnia”

By Hyeeun Seo / Age 33 / Level 8

I started meditating while working as a hagwon (cram school) instructor. My mind was always depressed, but telling myself that no one’s life is easy, I always tried to live brightly and bravely. On my way home after spending a day, tears would fall without fail, and I couldn’t sleep at night.

I had a younger sibling to take care of, which I really hated, and parents I would have to live with and care for when they got old and sick. Since there was no one in the world to help me, I lived a life where I had to judge and solve everything on my own since middle school. As a result, I became a tough, capable know-it-all who got things done, but I had become a person who lived alone with no one truly by my side.

Eventually, I lived wanting to die every moment, but holding on thinking I shouldn’t die solely because I had a family to take responsibility for. Then, through a friend, I came to do this meditation.

“The thing I was most joyful and thankful for while meditating was realizing that this painful life was not my life, and that it wasn’t my responsibility to carry until death.”

Looking back on myself, I realized that in the country of responsibilities and duties I created in my mind alone, I was just tormenting everyone while living fiercely to death inside my mind world.

I naturally distanced myself from illnesses I had carried my whole life, such as depression, severe insomnia, heart attacks, and shortness of breath, and I am truly enjoying a new life.

If it weren’t for this meditation, even now I would have just been sad without knowing the reason in the sad life I created. I am so thankful that this meditation exists, and truly thankful to this world.
