Teaching is a rewarding but demanding profession, often accompanied by high levels of stress. But what if educators could discover a way to not only reduce their own stress but also fundamentally improve the way they guide their students?
According to a feature published by Newswire, a mind subtraction meditation program designed specifically as a job training course for teachers is proving to do just that. By helping educators shift their own consciousness, the program is setting a new standard for character education in schools.
Here is a closer look at the remarkable evaluation results from the participating teachers.
π A Turning Point in Life
The Society of Human Completion Education, an organization dedicated to the practical application of character education, hosted the 2016 Winter Ma-eum Su-ryun Teachers’ Job Training. A total of 98 teachers participated in the intensive 59-hour program.
Following the training, a multiple-response evaluation survey revealed incredible feedback from the educators. When asked about their experience:
- 68 respondents said, “It became an opportunity to look back on my life.”
- 21 respondents stated, “It became a new turning point in my life.”
- 14 respondents noted, “A new alternative for character education was prepared.”
π‘ Positive Changes Inside and Outside the Classroom
How exactly does meditation help an educator’s daily life and career? The teachers reported a wide array of holistic benefits that extended far beyond the classroom walls:
- 52 teachers experienced positive changes in their thinking and personality.
- 38 teachers saw improvements in their family relationships.
- 33 teachers noticed better interpersonal relationships.
- 18 teachers reported a significant reduction in work-related stress.
These results demonstrate that mind subtraction meditation is not merely an academic tool; it is a life-changing practice that supports teachers professionally and personally.
π§ββοΈ Recovering the Happy, Original Mind
The training program, aptly titled ‘Character Education Meets Happy Meditation’, is a government-supported initiative backed by the Ministry of Education.
Shim Hye-ja, Vice President of the Society of Human Completion Education, explained the unique philosophy behind the program:
“The purpose of the training is to discover one’s potential through the improvement of self-reflection abilities. Unlike training focused purely on capacity building, the goal is to recover the free and happy original mind by looking back on oneself through meditation and discarding stressful minds.”
π A Growing Movement in Schools
The program is organized by the Ma-eum Su-ryun Teachers’ Group, an association of active-duty teachers who practice this meditation. Since its launch in 2006, the group has run over 300 character education programs for students, parents, and fellow teachers. With hundreds of registered members, they are actively implementing these mindful practices in 85 schools across the country.
When teachers find inner peace and clarity, they become powerful, positive examples for their students. Through self-reflection and mind subtraction, a brighter future for character education is already unfolding.
