📖 Introduction
Burnout, anxiety, pressure, emptiness, and the endless pursuit of success can quietly consume a person’s life.
Many people appear successful externally while internally struggling with exhaustion, emotional emptiness, fear of failure, pressure to achieve more, and the feeling that something important is still missing.
Even after accomplishing goals, receiving recognition, and building successful careers, they may continue searching for deeper meaning, freedom, happiness, and peace.
This meditation testimonial shares the story of Jin Youn Y., an orthodontist who spent years pursuing success, achievement, professional recognition, and personal freedom.
Although she built a successful orthodontic practice, participated in international academic activities, and appeared accomplished outwardly, internally she carried constant pressure, anxiety, exhaustion, and a deep sense of emptiness.
Through meditation and honestly reflecting on herself, she gradually discovered the invisible chains created by ambition, attachment, fear, and the constant pressure to succeed.
As she continued emptying her mind, those burdens slowly disappeared, and she began experiencing genuine freedom, happiness, gratitude, and peace from within.
This meditation testimonial beautifully shows how inner change can transform burnout, anxiety, pressure, ambition, and emotional exhaustion into clarity, freedom, gratitude, and deeper meaning in life.
💬 Meditation Testimonial: “Discovering Why I Was Born and the True Meaning of Life”
By Jin Youn Y. | Orthodontist
Yoon Jin Young’s lifelong dream was simple:
“I want to live freely.”
She believed becoming a successful career woman would finally bring that freedom.
So she became a dentist, built a successful orthodontic practice, participated in academic conferences, and volunteered internationally.
Outwardly, she appeared successful and accomplished.
Yet over time, she found herself unable to bear the invisible weight pressing heavily on her shoulders.
Through meditation and learning to let go of her mind, she eventually realized something profound:
True freedom does not come from pursuing success, happiness, recognition, or achievement.
It appears only when the very “self” chasing those things disappears.
Now, she says she greets her patients every day with genuine excitement, joy, and gratitude.
This is her story.
🌧️ “I Always Felt Empty, Like I Could Do Nothing”
I am an orthodontist.
It has already been over ten years since I opened my clinic.
Throughout the clinic, there are paintings, dolls, and decorations given to me by patients.
Orthodontic treatment usually takes two to three years, so patients naturally begin to feel like family.
And strangely enough, the very space I once desperately wanted to escape from has now become one of the most precious places in my life.
I grew up as the eldest daughter among three girls.
Because my father ran a business, there was always uncertainty at home.
And as the oldest daughter, I constantly felt responsibility pressing down on me.
But honestly, I disliked the reality of my own life.
I was physically weak and often missed school for days at a time.
Perhaps because of that, life felt deeply empty from a very young age.
I constantly thought:
“I can’t really do anything.”
Life simply didn’t feel enjoyable.
Other people seemed happy and energetic while living their lives.
But why couldn’t I feel that way?
How could I continue carrying this life?
Those questions stayed with me constantly.
🌱 The Happiness of Opening My Own Clinic Was Only Temporary
Part of the reason I entered dental school was because I wanted to escape that emptiness and live more realistically.
I thought:
“Maybe life would feel exciting if I lived like the successful career women I saw on television.”
But dental school was difficult for me emotionally.
The competition was intense, and there was constant pressure.
Even more painfully, the future I saw ahead looked completely different from the life I had imagined.
I dreamed of traveling freely through a wide world.
Instead, I felt trapped inside a small clinic all day long.
That felt suffocating.
Then during my fourth year of dental school, one of my professors suggested I study orthodontics.
The moment I heard it, I felt:
“This is it.”
As a child, I had been self-conscious about my own uneven teeth and rarely smiled confidently.
Because I myself had experienced orthodontic treatment and how much it changed my confidence, I felt I could truly help patients.
There were also many opportunities for academic exchange seminars and international learning.
I even volunteered in places like China and Central Asia, sharing orthodontic techniques and education.
Since I had always been thirsty to learn, I chased every opportunity I could find.
Then, in 2002, at age twenty-nine, I opened my own clinic.
Watching patients become brighter and happier after treatment was deeply rewarding.
Some found jobs more easily after gaining confidence in their smiles.
Seeing their joy brought me real fulfillment.
⛓️ The Invisible Chains Around My Heart
Two or three years passed.
My clinic became more successful.
I became increasingly active internationally and received recognition in my field.
But strangely, despite all that success, I constantly felt as though a heavy burden was crushing my shoulders.
It felt as though chains were tightly wrapped around me.
I always felt pressured, anxious, and chased by something invisible.
At first, I thought:
“This must simply be the responsibility of running a clinic.”
But as my body and mind became increasingly exhausted, I suddenly remembered hearing about meditation from someone I had met at a self-development seminar.
Wanting simply to rest, I visited a local meditation center near my home.
✨ As I Let Go, the Chains Began Falling Away
During meditation, I realized I had spent every hour of every day believing that if I stopped moving forward, I would fall behind and fail.
I was obsessed with constantly learning more.
Because I wanted to participate internationally, I pressured myself to have perfect stamina, perfect language skills, perfect abilities.
But my body was weak, and I kept forcing myself beyond my limits.
My body had already begun breaking down.
During meditation, my entire body ached as though I had a severe fever.
That was when I realized how mercilessly I had pushed myself.
But as I continued practicing meditation, the painful memories gradually became distant.
And little by little, my body also began feeling lighter and more comfortable.
At some point, I realized:
“This is something I absolutely must do.”
“Without this, I will never truly solve the questions of my life.”
So I practiced even more sincerely.
Then one day, something extraordinary happened.
I suddenly felt unbelievably peaceful.
And it truly felt as though the chains that had been tightening around me were finally being released.
🌎 I Realized That Without “Me,” Life Itself Is Freedom
More than anything, I wanted freedom.
But as I reflected on my life from the perspective of the universe rather than my narrow personal perspective, I saw clearly:
I had been trapped inside the tiny prison of “me” all along.
I believed:
“I must be happy.”
“I must be free.”
“I must earn more money.”
“I must be recognized.”
But ironically, it was precisely that “me” which was imprisoning my freedom.
As I continued discarding those minds, I finally understood:
“When that ‘self’ disappears, I myself become one with the world.
And the world itself is freedom.”
Before, I believed freedom meant buying what I wanted or going wherever I pleased.
But true freedom exists only when there is no “me” left to cling.
Since then, even while spending entire days treating patients at the clinic, I have continuously felt freedom and happiness overflowing from deep within my heart.
And the more I discard the minds I once believed were “myself” — pride, ambition, reputation, attachment —
the more this miraculous freedom continues to grow.
