Wanderer
The wanderer on the road makes haste.
A person who practices β€˜dō (Truth or the Way)’
must do so in order for him to arrive
at the place that practices dō.

No matter how smart one may be,
no matter how clever one may be,
if he were to talk about the road
without actually being on it,
if he were to talk about the road
without ever having walked upon it,
then he would merely be talking about
his own thoughts,
not the road itself.
The Way of Truth is not of man’s thoughts.

Human life is like the road a wanderer takes.
There are those who complain that the road is too long
without ever having walked it.
Then, there are those who doubt
whether this is the right road altogether,
without ever having walked it.
There are so many types of people.
Do not sigh and complain
that the road is too long;
walk it and you will eventually get to the destination.

A person who is caught up in all sorts of things,
a person who pretends to know all sorts of things –
such a person is unable to see Heaven
even though it has come,
even if it leaves.
