β¨ What Do Google, Apple, and Yuhan-Kimberly Have in Common?
When we think of the world’s most successful and innovative companies, we often focus on their products or profits. But if you look a little closer at companies like Google, Apple, and South Korea’s Yuhan-Kimberly, you will find a shared secret: Happy companies choose meditation for the happiness of their employees!
At Santa Clara Meditation, we know that a company’s greatest asset is the clear, peaceful mind of its workforce. Today, we are sharing a wonderful field sketch from a corporate healing retreat that proves just how transformative a few hours of Mind Subtraction can be for hardworking professionals.
π The Prime Representative of a Happy Company
Yuhan-Kimberly is highly respected in South Korea, boasting an incredible track record:
- Selected as “Korea’s Most Admired Company” for 12 consecutive years.
- Selected as “Korea’s Best Workplace” for 6 consecutive years.
To maintain this incredible culture, Yuhan-Kimberly held its 1st Ma-eum Su-ryun meditation training for the employees of its Daejeon plant. This 4-hour healing program, held at the Main Center, was exclusively designed to enhance the “peace of mind and happiness of individual employees” through meditation.
Let’s take a look at the field sketch of their special day! πΏ
πΊοΈ Field Sketch: The 4-Hour Healing Program
#1 Opening the Mind: Purpose & Expected Effects
The program kicked off with a simple but profound definition:
“What is meditation? Meditation is training that grows the power of my mind. If I meditate, it’s not a temporary fix; I will gain the power to always govern and control my mind.”
#2 Knowing the Mind: Special Lecture for a Happy Life
Instructor Lee Seok-jeong delivered a lecture that drew continuous laughter and admiration from the crowd.
“As we live, there are times when our minds go through a hard time. There are times when we get stressed. Times when we are anxious, and times when we are worried. But where does that mind exist? I will teach you what that mind is and the method to govern it.”
#3 Natural Healthy Meal & Post-Meal Healing Time
In small groups of three or four, the Yuhan-Kimberly employees found comfortable spots all around the beautiful nature of the center to take a well-deserved rest. As expected, nature is the best healer!
#4 A Session of Healthy Post-Meal Dance
To get the energy flowing, everyone learned the “Best Health Dance.” The employees followed along so well that even the dance instructor was amazed, saying it was her first time seeing a corporate group unite and follow along so perfectly!
#5 Time to Practice Mind Subtraction
The core of the retreat was the actual practice.
“What is the mind that gives you the hardest time these days? Write down 5 of them and rank those minds. We will choose one of those minds and discard it.”
It was a precious time to step away from daily corporate life, reflect on oneself, and empty the mind while meditating in pristine nature.
π¬ “A Turning Point in My Life”: Employee Reviews
After the 4-hour training that began at 10 AM ended, the employees shared their honest reflections. The relief and gratitude they felt were truly moving:
- “It was a refreshing opportunity to finally realize what my mind actually is.”
- “It was such an incredibly precious time for me. I think it will be a turning point in my life.”
- “It was a shame that the time was so short. If the opportunity arises, I hope to participate with my family next time.”
- “I want to apologize to myself for how much my negative mind made me suffer, and although it’s a bit late, I am grateful to the company for letting me experience the subtraction meditation.”
- “I learned that you must know how to discard in order to accept new things.”
π‘ Leadership and the Mind
Why do top companies invest in this? Because a clear mind leads to a thriving business.
“Meditation allows you to fully concentrate on your current task even amidst a busy life, thereby increasing work efficiency. As a leader, it also provides beneficial help in cooperating with colleagues and making better decisions.” β William George / Professor, Harvard Business School
