What Is Gesong?
Gesong is a written expression of oneโs enlightenment. Gesong resides in the enlightenment, and the enlightenment resides in the gesong.
One can know by reading gesong whether or not the writer has been enlightened, because gesong is a writing from the heart. Only when it is written from the heart is it a true gesong; it cannot be called that when it is written from the knowledge of oneโs head. It is possible to know the place of a personโs mind through his gesong, but usually it does not give enlightenment to ordinary people because people find them difficult to understand. The best or most well-written words are those that people can easily understand, therefore the best gesong is one that everyone can understand and gain enlightenment from.
