INTRODUCTION
✨ In this poetic reflection, Master Woo Myung uses the image of a sailboat to express the nature of loneliness. Though it may appear beautiful and peaceful from afar, the sailboat endures a solitary journey against the waves. 🌊
In the same way, when people speak of being detached or of heaven while riding life’s sailboat, they may still feel loneliness within. Loneliness, as Master Woo Myung explains, is born of ignorance—not knowing Truth, not being free from the self.
ORIGINAL WRITING BY MASTER WOO MYUNG
Sailboat
The passing sailboat
may look peaceful, detached, and beautiful,
but it is not so for the sailboat.
Pushing through the blue waves,
with its white sails raised,
it is lonely.
When man rides a sailboat
and speaks of heaven, pretending to be detached,
it is also a type of loneliness.
What is loneliness?
It is what people do not know,
what they are ignorant of.
Being without any accompanying passengers
is also loneliness.

REFLECT AT SANTA CLARA MEDITATION
At Santa Clara Meditation, writings like Sailboat help us reflect on the true meaning of loneliness. ⛵ Loneliness does not end with achievements or detachment—it ends only when the false self is discarded and one realizes the Truth. In that state, there is no ignorance, no separation, and no loneliness.
