INTRODUCTION

🌿 The profound phrase “Only I am great in all of heaven and earth” expresses the enlightened state of oneness with the Universe — the condition in which the self no longer exists and only Truth remains.

As Master Woo Myung explains, this “I” is not the human self, but the original self — the infinite Universe that existed before birth and continues beyond death. When man transcends his self-centered existence and becomes one with the Mind of the Universe, he realizes that there is no “this” or “that,” no man or earth — only the eternal Truth that is everything.

In that state, the Universe itself speaks:

“Only I am great in all of heaven and earth.”

What Is the Meaning of the Phrase, “Only I Am Great in All of Heaven and Earth”?

The phrase, “Only I am great in all of heaven and earth”, is speaking of the state when one does not dwell as a man even as he lives as a man, and when he does not dwell on earth even while he lives on earth; it is speaking of when one exists in the place of Truth, the Universe, where neither man nor earth exists.

This and that exist only when one’s self exists; when one does not exist, neither does this nor that. One’s original self is the Universe, and because this Universe is one’s self, the phrase means that only the Universe alone is great. Man cannot become one with this Universe that is his original self, because he has a self which he continuously asserts. He must eliminate this self if he is to become one with the Universe and become the state where “Only I am great in all of heaven and earth”. When he does so, he who is the Universe both before he was born and after, is a great existence. This is the meaning behind this phrase.

REFLECT AT SANTA CLARA MEDITATION

🌌 At Santa Clara Meditation, practitioners deeply explore this truth — that the greatness of heaven and earth lies not in the human self but in the Universe itself. When one completely discards the false “I” and becomes the infinite existence, there is no longer separation between heaven, earth, and self.

In that state of emptiness and oneness, the mind becomes boundless, eternal, and complete — the very essence of enlightenment. 🌿
