INTRODUCTION
In this poetic reflection, Master Woo Myung uses the image of a night train—its whistle echoing through time—to illustrate the transformation of humanity and the long-awaited arrival of the great Way (dō), Truth.
The night train symbolizes the movement of human history: filled with regrets, hopes, and forward motion, always pressing ahead into the unknown.
Just as transportation evolved from horseback to trains to airplanes, human consciousness has also shifted, becoming ready for the emergence of Heaven’s great Truth.
This teaching reminds us that the Way appears naturally when the world and humanity are prepared to receive it. ✨
ORIGINAL WRITING BY MASTER WOO MYUNG
Night Train
The whistle is sounded.
The night train is headed to the city.
‘Kaa-dunk, kaa-dunk, kaa-dunk’ –
it charges forward upon the tracks without rest.
Full of regrets and wishful dreams,
the train races on upon the tracks.
One holds his breath.
The train is arriving.
The train whistle of the past can be heard no more.
The only thing that has changed about this train
is its diesel engine,
but the train that used to chug away is no more.
In the days
when one could only go to the city on horseback,
the train was indeed a good form of transportation.
Nowadays there is the airplane,
which can take you there in a day.
The world has changed from the past;
man’s head has changed from the past.
The true Way – the great ‘dō (Truth)’ – of Heaven
that man has waited for has arrived.
It is due to man’s condition that
Heaven naturally bears forth this great dō.
