What It Means When It Is Said that Something Is Holy or Divine
When something out of the ordinary happens, it is often described as being holy or divine.
The word in Korean that means holy or divine is speaking of the Soul and Spirit – the existence of Truth. The two syllables of the Korean word literally stand for Soul and Spirit respectively. This existence created the whole world and it has the mystery of creation; such mysteriousness is described as being holy or divine. Therefore, when something is strange, out of the ordinary, or mysterious, this expression is used. There are many other words in the Korean language that originate from dō. The Korean euphemism for death literally meaning “to return” and a well-wishing greeting that means “to live well” are both such kinds of expressions, but there are many others.
