INTRODUCTION

🌌 In this penetrating philosophical reflection, Master Woo Myung examines three major traditions of Western thought: Rationalism, Empiricism, and Kantian Logic.

The philosophers of the European continent (Descartes, Spinoza, and Leibniz) asserted that philosophical knowledge and learning should be based on clear and indisputable foundations like mathematics and geometry. Comparatively, English philosophers asserted empiricism, and believed that the basis and methods of philosophical thought is in psychology and that awareness is a psychological process, and accuracy and validity of empiricism should become Truth. German philosopher Kant thought that logic is the absolute basis of philosophy and that all knowledge and Truth should follow logical thinking, and that the principles of logic should become the principles of awareness. Which of these three different schools of thought is right?

Philosophy is the study of the human world and the principles of the origin of man, but both academics and philosophy are not Truth, they are simply people’s own thoughts. Descartes, Spinoza, and Leibniz’s assertion that the basis of philosophy lies in mathematics and geometry is simply just their own thoughts. If philosophy is the study of the principles of the origin of the world and man, then all questions would be answered if they knew what the origin is. However, laying the basis of study in mathematics and geometry is far from the origin.

The English philosophers’ basis for their philosophical thought is psychology, but psychology is the study of the consciousness and behaviors of living things. But the origin does not exist in the displays of consciousness and behaviors. It is not the answer to think that awareness is a psychological process, and that accuracy and validity must become Truth. If one knows the origin of the mind, it is possible to reach the objectives of philosophy.

The German philosopher Immanuel Kant believed that the absolute basis and methods of philosophy is logic, but logic is the study of the laws and formalities of right thinking. Therefore even if logic can find the original principle of philosophy, if there is no certainty it is not the original principle. Philosophy is the study of the origin, and thus all the questions in philosophy can only be answered when one knows the origin. The origin of man and all creations in the world is that which exists and does not exist, it is the metaphysical real substance that is the mind. The mind that is referred to here is the metaphysical real substance of both the states of air and vacuum in the Universe. This existence is the mother of all creations in the Universe.
