📖 Introduction

🌍 In this profound teaching, Master Woo Myung explains that true education does not begin with knowledge, skill, or worldly success—it begins with the recovery of mankind’s original nature.

According to Master Woo Myung, the original nature is the origin of the universe, the never-dying Truth, the Creator, and the master of all creation. Throughout history, religions and philosophies have described this existence in different ways—God in Christianity, Dharmakāya and Sambhogakāya in Buddhism, yin and yang in Eastern philosophy—but all point to the same source.

✹ Real education, therefore, is not merely academic. It is the process of becoming a complete human being, reborn as the original, eternal existence. Only then can humanity truly live in harmony, wisdom, and unity.

Education Begins with the Recovery of Mankind’s Original Nature

Since long ago, scholars have attempted to study the original nature. Some have said that the ‘chi,’ or energy, of the universe is one, while others have said it is two. When they say that chi is one, they are talking about the existence of the one universe. When they say it is two, they are talking about yin and yang, the body and mind of the universe, which are separate yet one at the same time. Although their words may sound different, they speak of the same thing – that this existence is the original nature and that this existence is the origin of the universe.

Christianity says that to know God is the basis of wisdom; the original nature is what Christians call God. Originally, there is one God, the sole God. And though there are both the Holy Father and Holy Ghost, they are all one. In Buddhism, there is the Dharmakāya, the Mind of Buddha, and Sambhogakāya, the Body of Buddha, and though they are two, they are also one. All such things refer to the place of the Creator, to Truth, to the origin, and to the master of all creation. Returning to this existence is the basis of knowledge and wisdom. The education should begin with the recovery of this existence.

It is generally understood that a well-rounded, complete education includes the learning of knowledge, virtue, physical ability, and the arts. However the true meaning of being complete is to be a perfect person, which means to live forever. The existence that never dies is Truth, nature, and the master of all creation; and to become this existence is to become a complete person, a perfect being. This means that one must be free from the conceptions and behavior that he knows and be reborn as the body and mind of the original perfect existence.

Today’s education is designed only for living a better worldly life. But when humans come to know the origin and live as the original mind, then all of mankind will become one. We will know how to be thankful to our country and to the world; we will no longer have whimsical minds but trust each other, always have confidence in each other, and have better lives. In order to do this, everyone must recover their original mind; then their minds will be one for which there will be no thieves or crime, and everyone will live for each other. In other words, an education that allows us to do the above is truly a well-rounded education for human completion. When there is no concept of ‘your country’ and ‘my country,’ all become one; this is our kingdom. But when man lives only for his own wealth, prosperity, and power, there is nothing to have or gain; nothing remains.

When everybody recovers their humanity, which is their original nature, they will live diligently because everyone’s minds are one and thus, are not fickle or sly. Whether or not we live well is all in our minds. Therefore, when people are of their original nature and are not saturated with false materiality, that is to say, when they are not in the material world, they lack nothing. Instead, they will live doing their best as they have the wisdom of knowing the law of ‘cause and effect.’ They will also be better off financially because they know that they will have results according to the efforts they make. Recovering one’s original nature is the only way to have a better life through the wisdom gained, the only way to have a harmonious and comfortable social life, earn more money, and be blessed.

Without the original nature, one has a false mind and lives as a slave to that mind. He does not know how to adapt to the world and just insists that the world does not fit his perspective. His mind is negative and does not have Truth, so for him living is difficult.

The original nature is the never-dying world. When one recovers and lives with his original nature, he knows the reason and purpose as to why he came to this world. He will no longer pursue a good life for his body, for himself, but live for others. This will be heaven on earth, a place where everyone can live well, for there is no separation between ‘you’ and ‘I’ and everyone is ‘me’. Such a place would be our kingdom where we may all live well together.

Only after recovering one’s original nature, through education for human completion, should people be educated in knowledge for their respective fields of endeavors. Right now people do not trust but hate each other, seek success by stepping on each other, and stubbornly claim that others are wrong, kill others, steal other’s possessions, and think that only they are the best; this world is full of hypocrisy and lies. We can live exciting lives when we know the true meaning and value of living for others by being educated on how to recover our original nature.
