What is dōn-soo (頓修) and why is it essential after immediate enlightenment?
According to Master Woo Myung, even after dōn-ō (頓悟)—or sudden awakening—karma, habits, and delusions can resurface. The practice of dōn-soo allows us to eliminate these impurities, enabling us to see the source as it is.

📝 ORIGINAL WRITING BY MASTER WOO MYUNG
Practicing Dōn-soo (頓修)
Even after one gains
‘dōn-ō (頓悟),’ or ‘immediate enlightenment,’
his kleshas and delusions are bound to reoccur
due to all of the things he has stored in his memory
and due to the karma and habits he has.
Thus the best thing to do
is to eliminate his karma and habits
through dōn-soo (the practice that maintains immediate
enlightenment);
if he eliminates them again and again –
if he keeps at it –
he will eventually be enlightened of what dōn-soo is.
To be enlightened means
to know that the source exists as it is.
So long as one is not cleansed of his karma and habits,
the source is something that
he will never be able to see.
The source exists as it is,
but due to the kleshas that are born of his thoughts,
he is unable to see the source.
